Chapman University
FREE: Earlier this year, the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute at Brandeis University presented an extraordinary exhibit of “books of memories,” including handmade albums and pictorial diaries by ten Jewish women, all Holocaust survivors. Lacking photographs of what they witnessed and endured, they turned to visual storytelling to represent Jewish suffering during the Holocaust, as well as the complicated “return to life” that followed liberation. The exhibit was guest curated by art historian Rachel Perry, PhD. In this lecture, Professor Perry will draw on her research in gathering these “books of memories” from private collections and museum archives around the world. Informal reception to follow event.
